Copper Giant drills its best hole yet at Mocoa, pre-PEA
MD-074 cut 135 m at 1.60% copper-equivalent inside the planned pit — nearly three times the Indicated grade — with the economic study due by end of November.
On October 27, 2026, Copper Giant reported drill results from Mocoa, its copper-molybdenum project in Putumayo, southern Colombia. The headline hole, MD-074, cut 135 metres grading 1.60% copper-equivalent — a blended figure that folds two metals into one grade — inside a broader 724-metre run of 0.78% copper-equivalent. That hole ended still in mineralization at 903 metres down. A 52-metre slice of it ran 2.24% copper-equivalent, molybdenum-enriched at an 8-to-1 copper-to-moly ratio. When we last covered Mocoa two weeks earlier, the news was an updated resource of 1.60 billion tonnes Inferred plus 290 million tonnes Indicated at 0.54% copper-equivalent. These holes come after that estimate, so they are upside the current numbers do not yet carry.
Here is why the grade reads as a signal. A porphyry is a big, low-grade body — the game is scale, not a flashy vein. MD-074 is the best hole ever drilled here, at nearly three times the Indicated grade, and it sits inside the conceptual pit grading above the block model, which hints the resource may be modeled conservatively. MD-076 pushed the breccia 184 metres west into never-drilled ground, between 1,086 and 1,177 metres above sea level, after passing within 10 metres of historic hole M14 — evidence the system is a set of corridors rather than one body. MD-075 reached hotter potassic alteration on the north side with molybdenum rising at depth. The stock rose 26% over three months while the copper-miner ETF fell 3.8% and copper itself gained 4% — a company-specific bid, not a rising tide, though the sparkline shows a spike to about 1.45 that faded back toward 0.97.
Now the fine print. The company states drilled widths are interpreted to be very close to true widths across the board — reasonable for bulk porphyry, but not modeled hole by hole. MD-076 is a daughter hole of MD-074, a fan from one collar rather than an independent step-out, so its 184-metre westward reach is geometrically steered from the same pad. The copper-equivalent math is sensitive to assumptions — about a third of the headline grade comes from molybdenum credit — and the price ratio shifted from 1:5.278 to 1:5.383. VP Edwin Naranjo Sierra, the Qualified Person, is not independent of the Company; the resource QP is independent but these holes are not in that estimate. Assays are still pending on MD-072, MD-077, MD-078 and MD-079, so this is a partial dataset. The PEA technical report — Mocoa’s first economic case, which our last entry flagged as the open item — is now stated for filing by end of November.
