Copper Giant drills 804 m of porphyry at Mocoa, core runs more than twice the model

Infill hole confirms the high-grade heart before a Q4 economic study; the stock has more than doubled the copper price move.

On September 22, 2026, Copper Giant Resources said hole MD-073 at its Mocoa copper-molybdenum project in Putumayo, southern Colombia cut 804 metres averaging 0.56% copper-equivalent — a blended figure that combines two metals into one grade. Inside that run sat 103 metres at 1.07% copper-equivalent, and a richer 54-metre core at 1.2%. When we last covered Mocoa, the company had reported a single 771-metre hole and we were waiting on more assays and an updated resource. Three of four new holes topped 1% copper-equivalent.

Here is why the numbers land. For a porphyry — a large, low-grade body of rock spread over a wide area — the win is width times grade, not a flashy vein. That 103 metres at 1.07% runs more than twice the resource-model average, exactly the higher-grade heart you want confirmed before an economic study. MD-073 is an infill hole, a directional daughter steered from the MD-064 pad, so it firms up continuity and grade inside a known deposit rather than adding new footprint; the same-pad fan shows the system is continuous over more than 1,100 vertical metres, with the high-grade core sitting roughly 258 to 372 metres below surface. MD-067 and its directional daughter MD-071, a fan from one collar, ended in mineralization below historic drilling, hinting the system stays open — though the release does not state how far the zone was extended. The stock is up 73.4% over three months against copper’s 7.8% and a 4.9% move in the copper-miner ETF — a company-specific re-rating, not a rising tide. The August financing brought in about C$31 million, led by Denarius Metals with Frank Giustra participating, plus a Trafigura offtake.

Now the honest part. Copper-equivalent here leans hard on molybdenum, priced at US$20 a pound — the copper-only grade in the 804-metre run is just 0.31%. No cut-off grade is applied, so the long runs include zero-grade core that smooths the average. Drilled widths are interpreted as close to true widths, which helps. MD-073 confirms the model but does not add scale, and the western flank is still undrilled. The Qualified Person signing the technical disclosure, VP Edwin Naranjo Sierra, is not independent of the company. Our prior open item — the updated resource feeding the PEA — remains pending. Watch for a fourth rig starting western-flank holes in October and the preliminary economic assessment the company has on plan for Q4 2026.
