Near-surface copper hits at São Francisco, and the stock has moved

Prospectiva's first three assayed holes include 7.15 m at 4.78% copper. Four more holes are drilled and awaiting results.

Prospectiva Resources, a copper explorer that only started trading on the TSX Venture Exchange on August 14, 2026, reported its first drill assays from the São Francisco project in Pernambuco, Brazil. The best of three holes, SF_26_003, cut 7.15 metres grading 4.78% copper — nearly 34 percent-copper-metres, a way of multiplying thickness by grade to size up an intercept. Inside that run sat a richer core: 3.60 metres at 9.17% copper, with one 0.75-metre slice hitting 15.9% copper. That hole starts shallow, between about 79.6 and 86.2 metres below surface. All three assayed holes hit sulphide — the copper-bearing mineral the company’s geophysics predicted.

Here is why the numbers carry weight. A near-surface intercept of this grade matches the company’s own historical best, 7.50 metres at 6.41% copper, drilled years ago by prior operator Yamana Gold. Prospectiva acquired the target and is re-testing it, not starting from scratch. The company says mineralization continues from a surface discovery outcrop east to these holes about 600 metres away, down-plunge, within a stated 3-kilometre corridor — but note that is interpretation, not continuous drilling. Disclosure is thorough: a 0.20% copper cut-off, four-acid digestion assays, named lab, and a stated QA/QC program all appear in the release. The qualified person, Robert Selwyn, is named but is a non-independent consultant to the company. The share price has done something extreme — up 1800% over three months while the copper-equity index COPX rose 5.6% and copper itself gained 4.3%, a company-specific re-rating with zero sector tailwind behind it. The stock sat at $0.03 for weeks, spiked to about $0.80, and settled near $0.57.

Now the honest limits. True widths are explicitly not established; SF_26_003 is a steeply angled hole, so the real thickness is likely less than 7.15 metres, and those high grades cannot yet be turned into true-width economics. This is three holes over a modest footprint, and grade falls off sharply — SF_26_001 returned just 1.93% copper. No metallurgical testing has been reported. The next markers: assays from four more completed holes (SF_26_004, 004b, 005, 006), with timing not stated; the company expects to complete the 10-hole Phase 1 program mid-Q4 2026; and the company targets an initial resource estimate for 2027. The roughly C$3.68 million raised is estimated to fund about 12 months, so a further financing before that resource looks likely.
