SAGA finishes drilling Wolverine — 22 holes, no grades yet

All 22 holes hit the targeted rock type across 3,241 metres at the Labrador rare-earth project. The numbers that matter — assays — are still at the lab.

SAGA Metals has finished its first-ever drill program at Wolverine, a rare-earth project in Labrador it bought in April 2026. Twenty-two holes, 3,241 metres of core, and the company says every hole cut the alteration — the chemically cooked-up rock — it was aiming for. That is the whole of this announcement: the drilling is done and the logging has started. When we last covered SAGA, it was reporting a 408.5-metre oxide slab at its separate Radar vanadium project. Those earlier promises — final Radar assays and a maiden resource — are a different project and remain where they were; this release does not touch them.

Here is the catch, and it is the whole game. There are no grades. Not one. “All 22 holes intersect prospective REE-bearing alteration” means the rocks look right — the right minerals, the right plumbing — not that they carry rare earths worth mining. The thick numbers in the release (118.75 metres and 50.97 metres of “Unit 4” in the first two holes) are measures of rock type and alteration, not of mineralization. End-of-hole depths ranged from 43 to 204 metres below surface. Historic surface grab samples ran as high as 21.6% total rare-earth oxide, but grabs are cherry-picked chips, not a read on what is actually in the ground. An independent qualified person, Dr. A. Miller, signed off on the technical content. The rock system is confirmed to be present and to have scale; whether it pays is unknown until the lab reports back. Over three months the shares fell 33% while the rare-earths benchmark fell about 25% — SAGA trailing its sector by roughly eight points, no reward signal here.

The caveats are not footnotes; they are the story. No assays for any hole — gram-metres cannot be computed. Only 2 of 22 holes have been logged and sampled; the other 20 are pending. True width is not stated, and all holes were drilled at a steep 85-degree angle into near-vertical structures that run almost parallel to the core, so the downhole lengths may overstate the real thickness of the feeders. What to watch: first assays from W26-001 and W26-002 — 277 core samples submitted — arriving “in batches in due course,” with no date given; results from 136 prospecting grab samples, timing not stated; and an induced-polarization survey planned for Q2 2027 to guide follow-up drilling.
