Silverco puts a $329M number on a working silver mine

A preliminary study on the producing La Negra mine promises low startup cost and an 8.2-year life — riding a $50 silver price deck.

On September 21, 2026, Silverco Mining put a dollar figure on La Negra, its underground silver mine in Querétaro, Mexico. The preliminary economic assessment — a first-pass study of whether the numbers work — lays out an 8.2-year mine life and an after-tax net present value of $329 million, meaning the future cash the plan expects, discounted back to today’s money. The startup bill is low: $20.9 million. La Negra is not a hole in the ground waiting for a decision; it is already an operating mine.

The resource behind the study is real and heavily drilled — 98.2 million ounces of silver-equivalent in the higher-confidence Indicated category plus 12.6 million ounces Inferred, built from 39,471 holes and channels totalling 320,458 metres. An independent geologist, Allan Armitage of SGS, signed the resource, and the counting cut-off is stated at 80 grams per tonne silver-equivalent. So the rock is measured and the study is external. But the economics lean on one big assumption: a base-case silver price of $50 an ounce, well above the long-run norm. Push that price down and the headline shrinks fast. The all-in sustaining cost of $24.86 per ounce looks comfortable only because the assumed sale price is high. The stock has noticed the story — SICO.V is up 28.1% over three months while the junior silver index rose 8.8% and silver itself gained just 2.3%, a grind from roughly $6 to $9.80 that looks like company-specific buying, not a metal-price tide.

Three things the study buries deserve daylight. First, there are no Mineral Reserves at La Negra — the entire plan sits on Resources, the softer category. Second, about 21% of the scheduled tonnes come from Inferred material, the lowest-confidence class, which by rule has no demonstrated economic viability and may never upgrade. Third, the grade profile is back-loaded: silver feed rises from 55 grams per tonne in 2026 to 157 grams per tonne by 2033, so most of the value lands in the out-years and depends on delivering the high-grade La Negra zone, which still needs infill drilling. The company says its new mining fleet is beginning to arrive in late Q4 2026 (with commissioning continuing into Q1 2027), and management targets dry-stack tailings commissioning plus a throughput step-up to 2,500 tonnes per day in H1 2027. One more thing for context: CEO Mark Ayranto was COO of Victoria Gold when its Eagle Mine was built and later suffered a catastrophic heap-leach failure that sent the company into receivership — his personal culpability is not established in the public record.
