High-grade infill lifts grades at Sunday Creek's Golden Dyke
Tighter drilling at the Victoria gold-antimony project returned 2.7 m at 178.4 g/t and eight composites over 100 g/t in one batch.
Southern Cross Gold drilled a batch of infill holes at the Golden Dyke zone of its Sunday Creek project in Victoria, Australia — holes meant to tighten the spacing inside a block it already knows — and the rock came back loaded. The best cut was 2.7 metres grading 178.4 grams of gold per tonne (482 gram-metres — nearly six ounces packed into each tonne of that sliver of rock), at 662.3 metres down the hole. A second hole returned 6.8 metres at 49.8 g/t, the widest high-grade stretch of the lot, about 380 metres below surface. In all, eight separate composites in this one batch beat 100 g/t gold.
Here is why that is unusual. Infill drilling normally exposes a system as patchy — fill in the gaps and the grade thins out. At Sunday Creek the opposite happened: tighter drilling lifted grades and matched the company’s geological model. Holes tied back to earlier intercepts on named vein sets at tight spacings — SDDSC221 links the GD80 vein 13 metres along strike from an earlier hole and 18 metres from another, with the broader zone now traced over 1,550 metres of strike between 280 and 750 metres depth. SDDSC229 is a fan from a single collar shared with SDDSC218, tying 10 metres along strike of SDDSC177, roughly 19 metres up-dip of SDDSC188, and 32 metres down-dip of SDDSC218, between 280 and 750 metres depth; it is SDDSC218 and SDDSC221 that pushed Golden Dyke 30 to 50 metres west toward Christina. The antimony content — up to 1.2% in the upper zone — adds a critical-metals angle on top of the gold. The stock ran 16.9% over three months while gold itself slipped 1.0% and the junior miner index gained 9.4% — a company-specific bid, not a sector tide, with a clear re-rating from under $9 to above $12 mid-period. CEO Michael Hudson is a serial explorer-founder with credited discoveries across Sweden, Finland and Australia, though no mine-to-production exit on record.
The honest limits. These are narrow vein-set intervals — 0.2 to 6.8 metres — at considerable depth of 380 to 750 metres; true widths are disclosed as roughly 60% to 85% of the sampled thickness, and mining-scale continuity is not demonstrated here. The system is open at depth beneath the best hole, with no drilling yet below it. No top-cut has been applied, so one extreme assay — 1,290 g/t over 0.22 m — feeds into the headline. There is no declared resource yet; this remains an Exploration Target. Watch the 72 holes currently in the lab, the 200,000-metre drill program running through Q1 2027, and whether drill density eventually supports a maiden resource — SRK is engaged, but no quarter has been committed.
