Valhalla hits 32.6m of 4.35% CuEq at Sun — stock down by half
Three step-out holes in Alaska's Ambler District each hit wide, high-grade polymetallic rock, while the shares slid 51% over three months.
Valhalla Metals drilled six holes at its Sun project in Alaska’s Ambler District — a remote belt of volcanic massive sulphide, meaning metal-rich rock laid down on an ancient sea floor — and on November 3 reported the first three. Hole Sun26-006 cut 32.6 metres grading 4.35% copper equivalent (a single number that rolls copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver into one figure), including a 6.5-metre core at 6.98% copper equivalent that assayed 0.46% copper, 3.96% lead, 11.95% zinc and 135.4 grams of silver per tonne. Sun26-005 returned 11.2 metres at 5.67%, and Sun26-007 — the genuinely copper-rich one — gave 12.5 metres at 3.97%, carrying 2.07% copper.
The standout is thickness: 32.6 metres is fat for a VMS lens, and multiplying grade by width gives 141.8 percent-metres, a lot of metal in one hit. The company calls all three holes 50–100-metre step-outs from known mineralization, with Sun26-005 and 006 following up the older hole Sun23-004, which it reads as confirming the zone continues; the release does not state the strike length traced or the depth below surface. Read the copper-equivalent with care. Most of these intervals are zinc-lead-silver rock with copper often under 0.5%, and the equivalent formula borrows recovery assumptions from the neighbouring Arctic deposit rather than Sun itself — so the headline copper story is partly a conversion. Disclosure is above average: detailed QA/QC and a named reviewer. The backing is heavyweight too — Teck holds about 31.4%, Marubeni about 12.7%, insiders about 36%, leaving roughly a fifth of the stock trading freely. That thin float cuts both ways.
Three more holes from the 1,787-metre program are still at the lab, with results to come as validated. Beyond Sun, the company points to a resource estimate for its Smucker project by end-2027 and first drilling there in the 2027 field season. The caveats are real: true widths are not yet known, so the actual zone may be thinner than the drilled lengths; no cut-off grade or compositing rule was stated; and only half the holes are reported, so consistency is a partial read. The qualified person is a company VP, and the independent reviewer checked QA/QC only. Note also the market: copper barely moved and the copper-equity index slipped only about 9% over three months, while VMXX fell 51% — company-specific selling, not sector weather.
