Wesdome hits 106.5 m of gold at Shawkey 10, and the system grows

A single hole cut 106.5 metres at 3.1 g/t near Kiena, with a bonanza core inside — and the stock has doubled the junior gold index.

On September 16, Wesdome reported a surface drill hole at its Shawkey 10 target, part of the Kiena East corridor near Val-d’Or, Quebec, that cut 106.5 metres grading 3.1 grams of gold per tonne — a broad slug of ore-grade rock. That works out to roughly 330 gram-metres, the width-times-grade shorthand for sizing a hit. Inside it sat a bonanza core: 10.8 metres at 20.4 g/t. This follows our last look at Wesdome, where a hole under the Kiena mine tied the Norbenite Footwall Zone together. Those two open items — more Norbenite drilling across 300 metres of untested ground, and VZ follow-up through 2026 — are not addressed in this release; both remain pending, and this is a different target.

Here is why it matters. Hole SH-26-001 roughly doubles the grade-thickness of a 2021 hole in the same spot, S-21-831, which ran 2.3 g/t over 72 metres. The same diorite host carries eight more hits above 1 g/t stacked down the hole, including 23.4 metres at 1.6 g/t from 914 metres and 3.1 metres at 8.6 g/t at 847 metres — the mineralized intervals in this hole span from 387 metres to 937.4 metres downhole. The company says the host thickens from about 80 metres to over 200 metres, and that roughly 500 metres of strike toward the shore of Lac De Montigny is untested. Running the company is Anthea Bath, CEO since July 2023, who was COO at Ero Copper while it grew from a junior into a roughly C$2-billion producer. The balance sheet is debt-free with over C$350 million in cash. The stock ran 33.9% over three months while the junior gold index (GDXJ) rose 15.3% and gold itself was flat at +0.1% — more than double the peer index on a commodity backdrop that barely moved.

Now the honest part. This is a single hole. Wesdome reports every interval as core length, not true width, and notes the 2026 holes are drilled perpendicular to southwest-dipping veins — so apparent widths may substantially overstate real thickness. No cut-off grade or compositing rule is disclosed. The 700-metre true depth and the corridor links to the Shawkey and Dubuisson deposits are interpretations, not drilled continuity. Watch for more Shawkey 10 holes to define geometry, an initial resource estimate for the shallow portion as spacing tightens, and a winter drilling program along that 500 metres of strike. Timing is not stated.
